Tryout Information

Important information regarding tryouts & Clinics:

  • CLINICS:
    • There are two sets of clinics:  Goalie & Skater
      • Full Time goalies attend both dressed as a goalie
      • Part Time goalies attend goalie clinics as a goalie and skater clinics as a skater
    • Clinic groups are emailed on 8/31 and posted on the tryout page.  Note that these groups are for the skater/goalie clinics.  All goalies are encouraged to attend the goalie-specific clinics at the top of this page.
    • Clinic attendance is not required (certainly encouraged).  The last clinic day is a practice-run for tryouts.  We'll go through each drill in detail so goalies know what to expect for tryouts.
    • Not all levels are split into clinic groups.
    • PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND CLINIC GROUPS THAT YOU ARE NOT ASSIGNED TO!  If you have a conflict, please contact the goalie coordinators to gain permission prior to stepping on the ice.  This keeps the nets balanced for each group.
  • TRYOUTS:
    • Goalie tryouts consist of two events:
      • Skills - only goalies on the ice.  Goalies are evaluated during goalie-specific drills under controlled situations
      • Scrimmage - typically the last day of tryouts, goalies are evaluated on their game-play under un-controlled situations
    • Tryouts are CLOSED to outside viewers. If your goalie needs help getting dressed, you will be allowed to assist them but as soon as you are done you will need to leave the rink and wait for your goalie in the lobby.
    • Please arrive to tryouts at least 30 minutes early and you will get a jersey to wear throughout the full tryout process.
    • If your goalie CANNOT make tryouts (Both Goalie only and Skater group tryouts) you MUST contact Nathan Dixon and Matt Griffith prior to tryouts to discuss reason for absence and to discuss further options.
    • FULL-TIME goalies MUST attend Goalie Tryouts as well as Their assigned skater tryouts group. Please Follow the tryout page for those groupings https://buffalo.pucksystems2.com/page/show/404280?referrer_id=
    • PART-TIME goalies MUST attend Goalie Tryouts as a goalie and attend their assigned skater group tryout session dressed to skate out to receive their skater evaluation scores.
      • Part time goalies are placed on teams based on their skating scores.  The goalie score may be used as a tie-breaker or to fill a need on a team without a goalie.  YOUR GOALIE SCORE CAN NOT MOVE YOU DOWN, BUT IT MAY MOVE YOU UP.

A friendly reminder:

We know you all understand our kids feel the pressure of tryouts. During tryouts it is important for parents to provide support and be positive. Tell your son or daughter that you are proud of them, do the best that they can, and have fun. We all know there might be some disappointments. But, as a parent you need to remember that the words you chose and feelings you reflect to your child will have a lasting impact. Please be positive and not critical of the process. Be supportive of your son or daughter and let them prepare to have a great season with the team they were selected to be on.

At any time, if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Nathan Dixon and Matt Griffith.
